What you've been looking for for years is a small but well-featured interface that can do what you need to be competitive, but without breaking the bank. The fact that the converters are outstanding and the mic pres are as well can help produce great sounding audio files. That means less post production for me. latency is a bit worse with the audient, but it got better with latest drivers. go for the audient. the tascam 7000 has between the same converters than the audient id22, but i liked it also a bit better. lateny wise the tascam was bad for me. if you can get a cheap focusrite forte, then go for that piece. it has same converters than the AUDIENT ID14 DRIVER DOWNLOAD - I have mine currently on 'Dim' but you can use the scroll wheel in the id mode to control items in your DAW that your mouse is currently hovering over. The id14 is easier to use than the id22. It’s more for the novice/beginner enthusiast whereas the id22 is for more advanced folk. The id22 has both ADAT input and output, whereas the id14 only has ADAT input. So in short: id14 = extra mic channels but no hardware compressors, etc. id22 = extra mic channels + hardware compressor. Audient has released Windows drivers for its iD22 high-performance AD/DA recording interface and monitoring controller. Available for download directly from Audient’s website, the drivers provide multi-application support for WDM and ASIO and an efficient and low-latency Mixer Application to users of Windows 7 and Windows 8. The same basic design of pre-amps is used in all the Audient products, so you would get this in both the iD14 and the iD22. I don't own either of those two products, so can't comment on the device driver stability, but I have worked with musicians who use them and have heard no negative comments.
